Dr. George C. Alter works at the UM Population Studies Center, an institution where the UP Population Institute (UPPI) has had numerous research undertakings with. In the recently concluded Workshop on Demography: Preparing and Analyzing Archival Data conducted on Feb. 6-9, 2018 at the UPPI, he was one of the main speakers. He presented three lectures entitled History of western Historical Demography studies, Sources and methods in Historical Demography, and Comparative historical demography: The Eurasia Project. He is also assisting in the Social History of the Philippine Population (SHoPP) Initiative housed at the UPPI.
On February 14, 2018, Dr. Alter presented a lecture titled Stopping & spacing in historical Europe and contemporary Africa.
For all these activities throughout the first half of February 2018, Dr. Alter was officially Visiting Professor at the UPPI.
