UPPI and UP Geography host UNamur for workshop on digital traces
The UP Population Institute (UPPI), in collaboration with UP Department of Geography, organized a lecture on environmental migration led by Dr. Sabine Henry from the University of Namur, Belgium, on March 10, 2026.
In the morning session, Dr. Henry discussed the definition of environmental refugees and used case studies to elicit interaction from participants regarding different categorizations of environmental migrant movements. She also demonstrated the complexities involved in estimating the number of environmental migrants.
In the afternoon session, she delved deeply into the drivers of migration by sharing related research studies. Participants also explored various maps representing environmental migration through an interactive game. Lastly, she examined the factors in considering climate migration as a form of adaptation to environmental changes.
UPPI graduate students from Demography and Population Studies programs participated in the event, as well as representatives from Mapua University and World Vision Development Foundation, Inc.
