UPPI graduate students and alumni attend 2025 KOSTAT-UNFPA Training in South Korea

UPPI students Franco Febre, Marco Zaplan, and Maria Fe Abalos, along with alumni Lyka Manglal-lan (MPOPS) and Marvin Marquez (MADEM) attended the 2025 KOSTAT-UNFPA Summer Seminar on Population in South Korea.
Ms. Manglal-lan and Ms. Abalos first participated in Workshop 2: Population and Health in Daejeon from June 30 to July 4. The workshop was facilitated by Dr. Vladimir Canudas-Romo, Professor and Head of School of Demography of the Australian National University. It examined health outcomes within groups, considering demographic factors such as age, sex, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, and geographic location.
Meanwhile, Mr. Febre, Mr. Zaplan, Mr. Marquez, along with Ms. Manglal-lan, attended the series' final workshop on Event History Analysis, from July 7-11 in Seoul. Conducted by Dr. Scott Yabiku, Professor of Sociology and Demography at Pennsylvania State University, this hands-on course equipped participants with practical research skills, covering key techniques like life tables, Kaplan-Meier estimates, and various regression models that are essential tools for demographic analysis and population research.
The Summer Seminar brings together government officials, academic experts, and graduate students from across the globe. With topics that vary annually, it provides fresh perspectives on demographic challenges while fostering an environment for advancing research, shaping policy, and building international partnerships.
