UPPI represents PH at the 3-day APEC Seminar on Aging and Digital Inclusion in China

UPPI Assistant Professor Christian Joy P. Cruz represented the Philippines at the “Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Digital Solutions and Technologies for Senior Citizen’s Connectivity and Healthiness” seminar in Beijing, China, from September 17 to 19, 2025. In line with enhancing older adults’ quality of life through health-oriented digital solutions, the three-day seminar brought together 30 representatives from 14 APEC member countries who are aging and digital technology experts in the field of academe, development work, medicine, research, policymaking, and technology. Aside from the Philippines, other APEC member economies represented in the seminar included China, Thailand, Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, Indonesia, Chile, Australia, Peru, Russia, New Zealand, Viet Nam, and Brunei Darussalam.

Through thematic panel discussions, participants shared their insights and experiences on how to maximize technological opportunities to empower older adults and promote active and healthy aging. Asst. Prof. Cruz served as the moderator and presenter for the capacity building discussion on women’s endeavors for senior citizens during the second day of panel discussions. She presented women’s initiatives in the Philippines for older Filipinos. She also highlighted the findings from the Longitudinal Study of Ageing and Health in the Philippines related to the overall wellbeing and digital connectivity of older people in the country.
