November 11 is marked on the calendar as “Single’s Day” or the time for unmarried people to celebrate their single blessedness. GMA’s Ivan Mayrina recently visited the UP Population Institute (UPPI) to interview Dr. Nimfa B. Ogena about the observed trend where more and more young people remain single into their 30s.

According to Dr. Ogena, this may be related to the increase in educational opportunities for the youth and the attendant need for employment once they finish their studies. “It’s not really a disadvantage but is probably a change in (the) perception of young people regarding marriage,” she posited.
