The UP Population Institute (UPPI), in partnership with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the United States Census Bureau (USCB), successfully conducted the International Workshop for Computer-Assisted Personal Interviewing (CAPI) Operations and CSPro Programming for Android Users on October 9-20, 2017
Alejandro Christian D. Soler, a graduate of Master in Population Studies at the UP Population Institute (April 2010) recently earned his PhD in Political Science & International Relations at the University of Delaware (UD) with the successful defence of his dissertation entitled “Going urban: Marking cities, city networks and global commodity chains in the capitalist world-economy”.
For the duration of the fellowship spanning August 2017 to March 2018, Dr. Ortega will be working on his research project entitled ‘Postcolonial suburbanisms: a view from Manila’s fringe and beyond’ at the City Institute in York University, Canada under the mentorship of Professor Roger Keil. He will be looking at “the intersection of colonial history, transnational mobilities, real estate boom and dispossession that shape the urban-rural tensions underlying Manila’s suburban expansion.”
Christian Joy Cruz, University of the Philippines Population Institute University Researcher II, was recently awarded the Gawad Tsanselor sa Natatanging REPS (Research, Extension and Professional Staff) for 2017, one of the three winners for the said category.
The University of the Philippines (UPPI) participated in the recently concluded “Asian MetaCenter Hands-on Workshop on Modelling and Projecting Sub-national Population Trends” held at the Asian Demographic Research Institute (ADRI), Shanghai University in China on April 7-11, 2017.
